OW *A and ST all have the same redemption level for NRT, HKG and TPE.
There are more LCC flying out of HKG/Macau and TPE than NRT where gates are more limited and expensive.

You should investigate the Asian pass from North America offered by CX if you are from US/Canada and wants to see as much of SE Asia as you can on one trip.
