Jpost reporting El Al, Air France planes nearly crash in mid air over Belgrade, due to mistake by ATC.
What I don't understand is how these 2 paragraphs in the report make sense
1)
The two planes were about to crash in midair, but emergency alarms alerted both pilots and the El-Al plane changed course at the last minute, when the distance between the aircraft was only 300 meters.
To travel a distance of 300 meters when flying around 900 KMH, according to my calculation takes only about 1.2 seconds (if flying at right angles to each other, if they were flying towards each other it would be only O.6 seconds), which makes this a tragedy avoided by the skin of the teeth!
2)
According to the report, El Al commended the Israeli pilot, stressing that at no point during the incidents were the passengers, crew or airplane in danger
To me a second away is great danger!
ELAL seems to take the most dangerous moments and call them no danger! I wonder what they do call danger?
No wonder the FAA has downgraded them (although they aren't to blame in this incident, I'd still be very frightened to fly with a airline which calkls this "no danger"
Haaretz reporting incidend involved ELAL B777 with 120 passengers on board
