My bags once went missing for 15 days between Brussels and LAX. They were stuffed with Belgian chocolate and cheese.

When finally delivered, the cheese was present and rancid, ruining my clothes. However, all of the chocolate had been eaten. The chocolate wrappers were left in the bag. There were plenty of chocolaty fingerprints that could have been used to identify the culprit.

Somehow, it seemed just to silly to make a claim.
