Within the past 6 months I've stayed at 3 HIX within Scotland: Edinburgh, Inverness and Glasgow. The one in Edinburgh was listed as Leith I believe, but it was in a very convienient location: shops, restaurant, and a mall right across the street.

The one in Inverness was also fine, had some restaurants and a cinema nearby, but seemed further from the town centre.

The one in Glasgow city centre was also fine, and very convienient. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby, which was excellent. Was a bit tricky to find the car park at the time, as it was off-site I believe.

But, in terms of the similarities between Scottish properties and those you find in Canada/USA, there virtually the same. I found staff to be very helpful and the hotels/rooms themselves were fine and had no problems.
