I have been Platinum for 3 years and loved every minute of it up until this past May. At that time, I got fed up and Plat matched to SPG and have not looked back. Yes, it is difficult to get awards with SPG but ya know, I don't travel for leisure much anyway. On my vacations, I stay at home and enjoy the beach 2 miles from the house. So, I don't mind not earning the levels of points that I earned at Marriott.
The grass is greener at SPG folks-take'em up on the offer of a PLAT match before statuses change in 2010-you won't regret it.
It is???? They only want to PLAT challange NEW customers. Those of us who have a number but no status... TOO BAD. That's service? LOL!
Not to mention, that considering the almost TOTAL lack of options in LARGE portions of the US, it's kind of waste to have status in a hotel chain that has no places to stay......
SPG is a great program, but until they get some "volume" in hotels it's just not worth it for those of us who don't always travel to the top 10 cities....
(Just tried to book a Starwood in Spokane for example... NO hotel AGAIN!)
