Thumbs down Westin Denerau in Fiji

Has anyone stayed recently at the Westin on Denerau Island in Fiji? If so, I'd be interested in hearing about it.

I am just back from there and stayed four nights. Frankly, it was the most disappointing experience I have had with *wood since joining in 2000, which according to the SPG site I have stayed 245 times (31 this year) and a grand total of 433 nights.

First, the hotel was constructed in the early 1980s and has had several brands, according to my local guide. The rooms are filthy – there were stains all over the duvet and when I went to use one of the glasses in the mini bar, they were full of lipstick marks and finger prints. I set them out to be washed the next day and guess what? Housekeeping left them exactly where I had on top of the dry bar cabinet completely untouched. I literally had to wash them myself since there were no disposable cups provided.

The bathroom was incredibly dirty – the bathtub was so stained it looked like it hadn’t been scrubbed in years.

The service was likewise as bad. They did not distribute the holiday restaurant information to guests until 24DEC at 8:30 p.m. (that was the time housekeeping delivered it) and the food was incredibly high - $90FD for two for the breakfast buffet.

I did not receive an upgrade because when checking in she said I was a Gold (I hit Platinum in November shortly *after* booking my reservation there) and that she had no way to look it up – and when I checked out – all my food and beverage charges were categorized as Other – so I would not be receiving *points for them. I had to become very vocal at the reception desk because the assistant front desk manager (who spoke incredibly poor English despite it being the official language) could not help me since it was “their system.”

I could go on – but I was wondering if anyone else had heard of this hotel? I chose it over the Sheraton because it supposedly had the best spa on the island (wrong agan -- I had one massage and the therapist had to leave the room twice because she hadn't the right products ready and she shorted me ~10 minutes by saying she was done 80 minutes into my 90 minute massage - I realized this after seeing the clock in the locker oom) and because Westin tends to be more upscale with fewer children. In this case: WRONG. The Sheraton was nice – I wish I had booked my entire vacation there.

I hope Starwood sees this posting (and I rarely post here so that says something). I could send a complaint in writing but I actually would like to speak to someone. This was intended to be a vacation that should have been relaxing and it was awful, just awful.
