I don't know about this locale but generally speaking Japan is not a good destination for modern, impressionist, or contemporary western art. So I would say that if you go, do it for the setting, the architecture, the voyage, or the remoteness -- don't go expecting to see great art.

I am sure others on this site will point out the errors in my view!
