Approval Criteria
As a responsible lender, American Express is obliged to set approval criteria. If you cannot confirm 'yes' to these questions, it is unlikely that your application will be approved. I am aged 18 or over.
I have a current UK Bank or Building Society account.
I have a regular source of income of over £30,000.
I have a permanent UK home address.
I have no County Court Judgements for non-payment of debt.
My company has been trading for more than a year (only if you are self-employed).

All applications are done on credit scoring, and if you have any previous instances of missing reapyaments you will struggle. Owning a house can make a difference but I didn't own a house when I got my Platinum card.

I was turned down for AmEx Gold twice when I was 18, it was only when I got a Corporate AmEx from work and put a few months of spend thru did I reapply and was accepted.
