I recently checked several bottles on three flights from SPR-BZE-MIA-ORD. I had a 750 mL bottle of rum and four bottles of hot sauce. I just wrapped them all in clothes in my checked bag and they were fine. The bag was even opened by the TSA in MIA - I had the little paper notice when I unpacked - and all was fine.
As a bonus, the TSA went in through the unlocked pocket and didn't cut off my other lock.
