you have to have 5000 in the account just to get the amex card and then maintain 2500 dollars in it to keep it (i think) and also there are A LOT of maintainance fees I believe. I looked into this prior to getting my amex preferred rewards gold card, which I will now be cancelling because 130$ a year is just to much for a charge card, I have realized, unless it is the platinum charge with all of the travel benefits.
