Ok, I now rules are rules and I will of course not ask any staff for "flexibility". What I want is a healthy discussion about this pcs concept.
In CW I have 3x23 kg baggage allowance. This is great! But why must it be exactly 3 pieces? Surely it must be the weight that is the bulk cost for the airline?
The reason for my question is my own travel pattern. When I travel to South Africa, I love to buy wine. I usually buy three cases (6 bottles/case). Each case weights about 10 kg. My own bag weights about 15 kg.
When I check in, I then have 30 kg wine and 15 kg baggage. So not near the limit of 69 kg. However, it is four pieces, not three.
The check-in agent suggested that I could tape two cases together making it one piece with 20 kg weight. This is indeed a solution but it seems so unnecessary. The weight hasn't changed, only the pieces.
Yes, each piece has its own label and tracking but surely the weight must be the main cost to the airline?
Am I the only one thinking about this?
