Just make sure that you have a 4 digit PIN and you should be fine. See if your bank has a reciprocal agreement with any bank in the UK. This can save you quite a bit of money in fees. Also make sure you have a high enough daily limit so that you can pull the fewest times as possible if you're getting hit with a transaction fee. Some banks can add $5 each transaction plus foreign conversion fees. If this is the case try and get as much money in one transaction as possible to save additional fees.
I had that problem not cause I had a chipless CC but due to the establishment not taking any type of Plastic, Ca$h only. They told me where I could find an ATM, I told them Id be back and pay for the meal when I get some ca$h or they could deduct the $5 + 3% that my CC will charge me for taking the ca$h adv. They got a bit nasty, so I asked them to please show me the sign that says Ca$h Only or where it does on the Menu. They couldnt so I went my merry way and a couple of days later when back in that area paid them

Obviously this all came to be known after I had eaten, I simply mentioned if you know the person/people arent locals why dont you make it a pt to explain that you accept Ca$h Only
