From what is read on other forum, a stop at ANC is possibly because they expect big amount of cargo on this route. Which is a possible reason since BR focus on cargo a lot more than passenger service.

BTW, all 77Ws have GE90 engines, so no doubt 77W can fly non-stop YYZ-TPE. but maybe pushing the limit when the flight is filled with cargo.
