I actually tried to find the policy documented on the AS.com Web site and couldn't. I think it may be a soft policy, subject to change at any time. So far, though, it's real and has been for a while.
Right now, it always requires a call to the Gold desk to rebook since it's a name change as well as a ticket value re-use.
