2) Too bad you don't eat seafood, because there is a ton of good fish in Santa Monica

Anyway, if you are going into Santa Monica, it would really depend on what kind of food you like. Trastevere is a rather decent Italian restaurant on the 3rd Street Promenade, especially for individual pizzas. The famous Border Grill is located on 4th Street, just east of the Promenade. They do higher end Mexican food. I loved Riva on Wilshire, but they are not Fraiche, which also has an excellent reputation. They do a Southern France/Tuscan fusion that has plenty of things to satisfy a "carnivore." http://www.fraicherestaurantsm.com/fraichesm/?page_id=2
