I did buy these tickets believing that they were First and had no reason not to believe this. Since I'm not a super flyer like many of the forum members I presumed that I had received a good deal for booking 9 months in advance.

I know Dave Noble doesn't believe this - but to be honest I don't really care anymore.

I will be taking this as far as I legally can and will fight tooth and nail to give my partner the trip of a lifetime in QF F I told her about when booking the tickets. For me $5.7K x 2 is a hell of a lot of money and as I have mentioned before even BestFlights told me on several occations that I am right to expect the tickets in F....
^ Quite right too. You booked a flight in First Class for multiple thousands of dollars, the people you booked it from (i.e that you have a contract with) told you that you had booked in and would be flying in First Class, and so you have every reason to feel that this ticket should be honoured. Whether it will of not is a different matter, but I for one can totally and completely understand why you would take a stand in this particular case.

In regards other comments, the amount for each ticket, AUD$5,700 is today about UKP£3,200 - if I saw this offered in the UK as a deal in F it would never occur to me (and I am a very frequent flyer) that this was an error fare, cos the amount involved is still very much at premium fare levels. The one-way F flight on AA I booked a few years ago from LHR-LAX for UKP£420 - which, by the way, AA honoured, and never even tried not to honour - THAT was clearly an error fare!

Rather - knowing how empty F is on QF at the moment, and that it is being dropped on certain routes - I would assume that this a limited special fare as part of an attempt to get people back into the F cabin by selling F at J prices/the price that some 'lesser' carriers sell F at.

And I would never, ever consider paying such a huge amount of money for PE. And why would anyone in their right mind do so when LON-SYD J fares on CX are readily available for £3,000 or so.

So I for one can believe 100% somone booking this believing that it is real, and is exactly as it was billed at be - a good fare in F certainly, but a genuine one as it still is gonna cost them a LOT of their hard earned money.

The fact that the OP realised that this was a deal is quite different from him being someone trying to pull a fast one. Nothing he has posted so far suggests (to me anyway) that he is one of those guys who buys a ticket deal posted in the Mileage Run Forum, purely cos they were $2.50, knowing full well that the flight will never be honoured, and then screams blue murder when 20 second later just that occurs!
