Actually QF has offered fares ex-LHR that are even lower than this -- and available for anyone to purchase. I've heard of GBP 3000 for F on QF LHR-SYD, and there was a cricket fare as a promotion that was based on the cricket score (think it was about AUD 200 LHR-SYD). So there is ample precedent for QF selling seats at even lower fares than this -- so there cannot be a defence of "clearly this fare was an error and the purchaser knew it" when such fares were widely offered in 2009.
Just as an aside, in the BA sale which starts tomorrow (Dec 23) some prices are already loaded and LHR-SYD/MEL-LHR on the QF codeshare in PE (most flights on the A380) is priced at just over £1.2k (or A$2.2k) for travel in Aug next year.
