Thx for the detailed response. Helped to make sense of some complicated questions. When I said "basically" around the unions, my far less knowledgeable understanding was same union, but almost was operating as union A-east, union A-west. Thx again for explaining in detail.

Honest short answer- auto unlimited first class upgrades for elite. Makes doing a lot of business flying tolerable. WN doesn't have a global alliance (n. I've flown both airlines and FC on US to me is better than general on WN. As elite we get our bags checked for free anyway(although I carry on nearly 100% of flights).

And this is a big one I almost forgot, elite security line. This can save a ton of time. Talking 1/2 hr to 1 hr sometimes when general is really backed up.

The real question is why any non elite would fly US over WN?

If I were to jump (and tolerate connecting a lot), I would be more apt to go to CO, especially now with DirectTV going in, or UA. Don't want to get too much into that as a lot of factors such as routes etc. Although we don't get reciprocal upgrades on CO or UA, as *G really nice using the elite boarding carpets. We have a free for all gate crush.

But thats the honest answer.
