Delta Gluten Free Food

I searched for some information on here before going away and could not find any, so thought I should share my expereince in case someone else looks for information.

Flew ORD-TLV via ATL. ATL-TLV in coach, ordered food, GFML. Yes you can order for international flights as long as it is more then 12 hours in advance.

Food mediocore, tasetless. Consisted of chicken and stale rice and side salad and rice cake both for dinner and prearrival snack. Midflight there was banana and Yougurt I could eat, but more choices for someone without any dietary restrictions. I flew also on EL AL and American Airlines international and their gluten free offering is much better then Delta. American gave me olive oil and balsamic vinegar as a dressing to the salad and their food at least had some sauce. EL AL GFML was great full of taste and flavour but in my opinion EL AL food service in coach is one of the better ones.

I asked one of the flight attendents on Delta if I could bring food from home and have them warm me, she told me no, since they do not have microwaves. However I asked if I could bring rice dishes that are gluten free and need only warm water to cook in the galley, and the answer was yes, why not. So I will do it next time.

Anyway my advice have your own gluten free snacks to munch on for longer flights, since you never know what will be offered on board and sometimes special meals do not make it to the plane.

My impression is that Delta has lowered the standard of service in international economy. Cannot comment on the regular meal even though in the past pre celiac diagnosis I found Delta's food on ATL-TLV quite edible and nice. My son had a child's meal which he ate some, but he is very picky eater.

So that's it need to do a return trip to Chicago on Saturday with a 5 year old via ATL something I am not looking forward to. 14 long hours from Tel-Aviv to Atlanta and back to freezing Chicago from sunny Israel.

Erez

P.S. Chilli's in concurse B in ATL was able to offer me a gluten free meal. My understanding is that On the Border in concurse A can also accomodate celiac's.
