There is not a grace period for canceling paid tickets. Changes made within 24 hours can be made without a fee, but not cancellations. Of course,exceptions are made, but it is not policy.
Instead they have a hold that allows folks to be sure of tickets prior to purchase.

I disagree. I have cancelled paid tickets within 24hrs of paying them and have gotten my money back. And they have not been refundable tickets!
The agent I spoke to today in trying to cancel my award did confirm that the grace period applies only for paid tickets, not awards.
