I think you are being a little selective in your data, for whatever reason.
Yes, your GVA example was the one to which I was referring as reasonable, about $200 pp more than US based carriers charge, but still reasonable.

But, even when working with this relatively low bar, it's a bit disingenuous to claim that jumping through the aforementioned hoops and limiting the miles to a BA redemption in which one brings along a companion, constitutes a genuine 3 miles per dollar earning opportunity. IMO, 2 unrestricted miles per dollar from just about any program (save DL) would be preferable.
