Legal note:
Multiple purchases of a fictitious nature are prohibited by Delta Air Lines. In the event Delta Air Lines determines that an individual has confirmed such purchases to one or more destination(s) on or about the same date(s), the carrier reserves the right to cancel all confirmed space associated with the multiple reservations without notice to the passenger or the person making the purchase.
The reservations are not fictitious. I have made multiple reservations at times... they are real, not fictitious. It is just I do not know which one I will be using. I always cancel the ones I will not be using even when there is no residual value left after the cancellation.
