I was curious about the exact meaning of this, so I sent Chase a secure e-mail, asking if the 5 debits had to be in
calendar month, or 5 debits on each
statement.
It's the latter: "Chase Checking (SM) has no monthly service fee when there is a monthly direct deposit to the account or you make five or more debit card purchases in a statement period."
