Yes. The zeroed out flights may not remain that way. As for seats on Thurs, I can only assume that you do not have status on AA, as there are seats available to be assigned on all of the DCA-ORD flights on 12/24.
The bump policy: depends on the flight, the number of volunteers needed and the timing of the next available flight. Usually a couple of hundred dollars in the form of a voucher.
