Business Class Fares-Do Revenue "C" class fares exist?
I am married, and we have a 5 year old child.
The 2 of us are Aeroplan Elite members.
I, as a current AMEX platinum card holder (see Amex platinum card thread for my questions related to this card) have a AC/CP companion certificate.
During March break (starting March 10), we want to use the companion certificate. The best way to maximize its use is to use it for a "C" class business class fare. The free companion fare would be for our child. That means that I may pay out of pocket for one, if not 2, of the adult passengers' fare for business class ticket. Of course, I want to minimize this expense, provided that I had to pay for a business class fare. (I want both myself and my spouse to get qualifying points - otherwise, of course 1 of the 3 passengers could get a ticket on Aeroplan points, and only 1 of the passengers would have to purchase a revenue business class ticket).
Can one get a paid business class ticket in "C" class fare, which is cheaper than a paid "J" class fare?
Options for us include Florida, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Mexico, Caribbean, and Europe? Which of these routes offer revenue "C" class fare? How much cheaper are C class fares, compared to J class fares, and how much more expensive are they compared to Y class fares. What other restrictions does one see with "C" class fares?
Any suggestions, to minimize costs, and maximize the benefits, so that we all get business class seats, and at least one, if not 2, of us are eligible to receive qualifying miles, by virtue of using revenue tickets? Our 5 yr old daughter of course does not need qualifying miles.
