Ironically, Amex' policy towards airlines who are close to filing for bankruptcy or shutting down altogether, is to build up a reserve (withhold their merchant funds) up to the maximum exposure for Amex in case of card holder claims. I wonder how the reporter surmised that if you paid with an Amex or Discover that you were out of luck?
