The only part my story that was an exaggeration was that the mice circled my feet. This is exactly what happened- I ate my sub in the row closest to the TV, which was airing CNN, which was covering the incoming storm. The mice kept darting out from under the side board, coming ever closer to me to inspect for crumbs. I'm not a slob, I'd laid out the bag so as not to create a mess or have food fall all over the place. But as the mice kept on darting closer to me, I didn't make any motion to wave them off because I was curious as to just how close they'd come. No joke, they were coming right up to my feet, inspecting some speck on the floor, then darting right back under the wall.

I reflected on Giuliani's Broken Windows theory at this point. I was ready to start throwing crumbs for the critters so I could watch them scurry for my amusement. And then I reflected for a second, and realized how annoyed I'd be if I saw someone throwing food on the floor of YYZ. But once an authority lets its terminal go to ...., then it's like, who cares, why not just do whatever you want? If they don't care, I don't care.
