Given the choice of walking from terminal 3 to 1, or taking the AirTrain, has anybody found if one is faster than the other?
If you're on time and traveling light, just walk fast. It's more consistent than waiting on AirTrain, where you might get lucky and immediately catch one or you might get screwed and wait a while.
