The checkin system will accept the old codes, so will the kiosks. Your boarding pass will print with a new code (all letters) which is the new Sabre code. I've done it several times already.

You don't need to stay on hold! The old code works fine with the checkin system.

Edit: too bad I didn't read FT earlier! I could have saved you 75 minutes of your life you won't ever get back. I'm astounded WS is still having these hold times, two months after the changeover.
