Airplane crashes were described as low probability, high consequence events. So, while your average statistical odds of dying from an airplane crash are indeed low, if you are unlucky enough to be that 1 in 8M ratio, the probability of you dying is high. Terrorism incidents have increased the odds of an airplane crash, IMO, despite terrorism incidents also being low probability events. I certainly would not want to go back to the days when the FAA was "protecting" us. Safety and the FAA are mutually exclusive.
The probability of dying is 100%. The only unknown is when!
