Interesting stats. It goes on to talk about pilot error, bird strikes, and health concerns. Of course, terrorism wasn't mentioned nor were mechanical failures. Still with the 9/11 incidents factored into the above stats, it still shows how safe air travel is.

I watched a TV program years ago called, Living With The Odds, which was hosted by a comedian, and the program detailed the odds of dying from many different causes. Airplane crashes were described as low probability, high consequence events. So, while your average statistical odds of dying from an airplane crash are indeed low, if you are unlucky enough to be that 1 in 8M ratio, the probability of you dying is high. Terrorism incidents have increased the odds of an airplane crash, IMO, despite terrorism incidents also being low probability events. I certainly would not want to go back to the days when the FAA was "protecting" us. Safety and the FAA are mutually exclusive.
