Most of the cameras in this range will not be flat and fit in a dinner jacket or tailored Italian pants. I use a Nikon S7c for that kind of occasion. But a LX3, P5000 size can fit in a pants pocket fairly easily. For a whole day walking trip without a bag, I use a nice soft leather case with a belt loop with my P5000. There are occasions that I don't want to look like a tourist (may be only I have that false feeling) that it goes in the pants pocket.

Absolutely right, unless you have a very big pocket (cargo pants, anyone?) ....
For G10, G11 size, cargo pants or a trench coat pocket certainly work fine.
