You still haven't acknowledged the fact that these were paper tickets for a railway segment. That a change/refund/cancellation wasn't allowed in your rather unusual case doesn't make the FAQ wrong.
Granted, it would have been nice had AA allowed you to change the tickets, 20 minutes is a very brief time relatively speaking, but it sounds as if the agents tried and couldn't do it. Possibly the request goes to the railway computer immediately and can't be retrieved by AA agents.
I could not change my AIR SEGMENTS because the itinerary included a AA Train. Hos nothing to do with the train, other than the train caused paper tickets, and AA can not change flights with paper tickets in the many days between booking and receiving the tickets.
