I have a Rewards Plus. I think if you have a regular AMEX, add on a Membership Rewards membership, and another card, it's the same cost, plus then you can add 3 additional cards for no cost. If you already have an AMEX card + MR, you might make up the cost to up to upgrade by the double miles/points bonus.
