Priceline initially refused to honor their side of the agreement, and asked us (SO and me) to directly speak to the airline. They did not "review additional flight arrangements". The SO then threatened to complain at all forums, and also mentioned that a thread in flyertalk has already been created. Mentions were also made of elliot.org. Finally the CSR went on an extended conversation with the airline and a supervisor, and returned with a new ticket in the same flight.
There is a tangible reason why I have to be on the same flight (sorry can't talk about it here). I am also a little confused now. My SO is on a flight to go from A to B. Since she is on that flight, I book myself on the same flight, and both of us have confirmed tickets - what is the risk we have assumed?
Lesson learned - always re-confirm ticket a few weeks in advance (I usually just do it a couple of days back).
Glad it worked out and I don't consider mentioning the sources you did as it working out to be "nasty." Sometimes agencies and airlines need to be reminded that they are in business for one reason...because of customers. And I always check my reservations relatively regularly, regardless of the source I used to book them.
Call the airline to be sure you can book seats together. Having a reservation on the same flights doesn't mean you are guaranteed seats near each other.
There is always a risk you assume when flying. Planes will get delayed, missed connections, canceled flights, etc. There is also a risk incurred every day when you get out of bed. I don't consider either risk worth worrying about.
