Some of the cheaper hotels I stayed in had the best room service. I stayed with my wife at a fairly basic resort hotel in Jakarta not so long ago. It was quite late, didn't feel safe about going out at night and we were very hungry so ordered room service. 5 plates of very tasty Thai and Indonesian food including drinks and sides for around IDR150,000 (US$16).

I will quite happily go out and walk rather than pay $20 or $30 for a substandard burger. +drinks +x% service charge +x% tax, that's close enough to $50. There aren't many cities where I couldn't find something much nicer for the same money at a local restaurant.
