Takes out his calculator and puts on his professor's hat:
If I assume 5-day working weeks, over 52 weeks a year I get to 260 working days. Let's deduct a rough yet generous 40 days for personal and public holidays combined, so we have 220 days. 2000 hours divided by 220 days gives just over 9 hours a day, or 45 and a half per week.
Many people would now say that this is roughly the same amount of hours that most people across all industries tend to work on average.
Then again one must take into consideration that CC work is both physically and psychologically fairly draining, because of the travelling, time differences and PAX involved.
On the other hand, there are fire-fighters, nurses, policemen, professional soldiers, social workers and many others who suffer from similar pressures at the workplace and can work considerably longer hours, however, often at surprisingly low pay levels.
Takes hat off and stows calculator away again
So, what gives?
