However, I assume the seat alert function works by checking the availablity of a seat periodically. Therefore if the query is not made in the vacant period between re-seating you and placing another pax in that seat then you won't know for sure.

A more reliable method is to check your e-ticket under MMP whilst you are at the lounge. When a pax is upgraded their ET needs to be updated.
