IME, anything less than an hour at JFK is living on the edge. Particularly during winter months, when there almost always seems to be ground traffic issues, ie if you are fortunate to land relatively on time, you'll then sit on the tarmac waiting for a gate because planes are backed up in the de-icing line. Because of a high number of past misconnects, I try to avoid connecting at JFK if at all possible and generally only go through there if I take the nonstop SLC-JFK and don't have to connect elsewhere.
