Well, if you'd been around long enough, you might remember that the old Sheraton SCI program did almost to the letter what you suggest above. It was a year or two before the whole Starwood thing came about and the confirmable upgrades were certainly nice.

However, on balance, I'm infinitely more pleased with the current SPG program as it stands today, warts and all. Like most of you, I've been disappointed when antipated upgrades didn't happen when I knew that there was availability. (Including several frustrating sitations at the USGrant Hotel in SAN, where I was upgraded to a room perhaps 10 ft sq larger than a std room when the property was nearly 90% vacant!)

But, I could list so many other times where I really was exceptionally well treated as a long time Plat member.

I'd surely love to have confirmable upgrade certs each year, but absolutely NOT at the expense of diluting the current program.
