I was on a transpacific flight recently (EVA Air B777-300) between Taipei and San Francisco that hit tail winds and speeds > 700. I too was a little surprised to be flying so fast - a very smooth and pleasant flight. That flight was approx. 9 hours 50 minutes - sure beats the one going westbound via the Arctic at 13 hours.
