Hey guys! I'm new to Flyer Talk. However, I grew up around travel my whole life as my dad owns a travel agency/consolidator which I've worked for in various capacities since age 13 (I'm now 21). Dad always played the FF game with tons of different FF CCs. I recently picked up the UA Visa Select that gets 3 miles per $ on UA and I read about the Mint thing in the WSJ that referenced FT, so I decided to stop by. I had found FT many times before via Google when finding info for clients, but this time I read and read and read. I decided that AA lifetime GLD would be my first goal, with lifetime PLT to follow. This is because I don't do all that many eligible BIS miles each year (and often my BIS miles aren't eligible because they're free), though I travel more than the usual Joe, I don't compare to most of the business travelers on here. CCs are my main earning tool. After making the determination to try for AA GLD, I signed in to my AA account. I was shocked to discover that I had 200K miles sitting in my account! I don't remember how they got there; my best guess is that my dad signed me for a CC when I was just a kid and earned that in bonus and CC miles. He often has done that. He doesn't remember it and was just as surprised as I was, but he doesn't have a very good memory for those things given he juggles about 30 CCs and about 49 FFN accounts! So I'm 1/5 of the way to AA GLD already! I have two new Citi AA cards in the works. In the mean time, I'd like to use some of my AA points as I love to travel. One of the things I'm most excited about is flying J. I've flown J on several travel agent upgrades, but not very often.
I'd like to know where to go to get the best bang for my buck. I should also add the I will shortly have 100K BA miles, with 37.5K to follow in a year (as I plan to spend $30K to get the companion voucher).
First, I'd like to list the places I've been:
Mexico (basically just Ensenada)
Costa Rica (all over)
El Salvador (all over)
Panama (just the northern part by Costa Rica; never seen canal)
London (10 hour layover that hit the highlights)
Paris
France (all over x2)
Germany (all over x2)
Switzerland (all over x2)
Austria (just a teensy corner)
Rome (spent quite a bit of time here)
Netherlands (all over x2)
Istanbul & Sanliurfa Turkey (Istanbul x2)
Damascus
Kurdistan, Iraq
Amman & Petra
Israel (lived there for 5 months, went everywhere in Israel, West Bank)
Cairo
UAE (Dubai, Fujairah, Al Ayn)
Oman (Muscat + little town in the interior)
Hyderabad, India
Bangladesh (Dhaka + country)
Siem Riep, Cambodia (Angkor Wat)
Laos (Vientiene + Pakse and three other southern cities)
China (Hong Kong/Shenzhen/Macau, Beijing, Xi'an)
Thailand (lived there for 8 months)
Southern Vietnam (Saigon, Da Lat)
Seoul, South Korea (20 hour layover, my cousin lives there, so just a quick tour)
So those are the places I've already been. Also, I should mention that I'm a professional photographer and videographer--I do weddings and portraits on weekends, so I love picturesque travel. My first love is candid people photography, landscapes, and architecture; I only do weddings and portraits to support my expensive photography habit.
So what would be the best bang for my buck? I'd be delighted to do multiple destinations in one trip. I can get off during the second half of the year. Let me list a few of the places I'd love to go:
Budapest or Prague
Easter Island
(thus I'm especially intrigued by
this)
New Zealand
Russia
Poland
Tibet
Mongolia
Some of the more touristy Hindu places in India (incl Taj Mahal)
Antarctica (does AA fly there?

)
Okavango/South Africa/Victoria Falls (but I can go there on free SA tickets we get as SA consolidators)
Kenya
Morocco
Iran
Madagasgar
Ireland
Italy
Iceland
Nepal
Machu Picchu
Greece
Galapagos Islands
Also, I'm not a drinker or partyer in the traditional sense, so night club scene isn't going to be attractive for me.
What are your suggestions? :-)
