First post! Not sure why there is confusion regarding tier expiration, it is noted directly underneath my member number on the card, "tier exp. 03/2011". Incidentally, I qualified for Gold in 2009, so the expiration on the card is exactly as I understood, you get the status for the rest of the year in which you qualify, the entire next year, and then the 3-month grace period.

The confusion comes from two areas.
1) They do not list the expiration date on the website anymore
and
2) The cards have a variety of expiration dates on them. There are a half dozen threads every spring about how the expiration is wrong, people got two cards with different dates, or people got cards with dates that didn't make any sense.
You are totally correct, it's really not that hard to figure out when the status expires, you get status for the remainder of the year in which you earn it, and the entire next calendar year (for those who earned it the regular way)
