I moved from the UK to the US some years ago. I couldn't keep my account number but they did issue a new card in USD fairly quickly.

I argued with them for 6 months about the "Member Since" year on the card. They wanted to reset it to the year they issued the US card. Finally they relented and issued it with "Member since" my original UK date.
