I've been known to use the overhead ventilation nozzle to generate a partial "air curtain" if a seat mate's odors or aerosols trespass on my side of the armrest. If they try to re-aim it, if the air touching their arm annoys them, at least it's a conversation starter.
I do the air curtain as well, and it has been moderately successful. Unfortunately, not all aircraft have them, and on a recent DFW-MAD on AA's 767-300 without nozzles, I picked up a NASTY, nasty bronchitis from a guy coughing for 9 hours across the aisle. It's almost a month later and I'm still not recovered.
