It's going down to GRU (1230p departure). The JFK-LAX flight is a way to rotate 767-300ERs in/out of LAX for maintenance/fleet rotation purposes (it would have to have an ATL or JFK turn).
Because its a 76T(aka 12+ hour bird(has crew rest)) run mostly out of JFK. Seeing that they only have 7(IIRC) of them its better to run it this way. (BTW planes never fly to JFK for Maintenance. The only work on planes in CVG,ATL,SLC,BOS and LAX(as far as hangar work) anything they can do at JFK can be done at LAX. This is why they run all kinds of planes on ATL-JFK)
