Turns out you are supposed to slid your room key into a slot by the door to turn electricity on. No one bothered to tell me at check-in and I was too tired to have engineering come to my room at 4am.
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the system they have there either, but it's better than a motion activated or IR system. I usually just ask for 2 keys and leave one in the wall. It's worked so far.
