I'd probably go with ATT, but TMobile has a couple of advantages for international. First, they have a Blackberry International plan that you can just add for the months you are away. It covers e-mail. People are disputing what other data is included and I don't want to rehash that fight here.
Second, the TMobile version has built in VOIP. If you travel outside the US, this can save you a bundle on roaming.
I've never been charged for Data when I roam internationally with my Tmo phone and the international blackberry service.
If you are a global business traveler TMobile is the hands down winner.
I don't know anything about Tmobile 3G coverage in the bay area but I've heard nothing but complaints over ATT service in SF because of over saturation with iphone users.
