Hi,

I tried to buy a car last year on my Pt Card but to no avail, the dealer would not accept it for full payment even though they were displaying the AmEx Accepted sign. If you speak to AmEx they have to take the transaction in full, AmEx does not like it when retailers display the sign and then ask for you to use another card or another form of payment. In my instance, I struck up a deal with the dealer as I said that I wouldn't buy unless they took my AmEx card and we compromised on 3 years free servicing and a free upgrade to a CD Player. Fair enough I lost out on 10k in MR points and revenue but to no great loss.

I can see the logic in thinking that huge spend will get you Centurion, in the UK I understand that sheer spend alone will not get you the card. I spent significantly more than my friend last year who has Centurion to no avail, I am now due to receive the Centurion card in the next aquisition period as I will then have had my Platinum card for a period of time that is acceptable (I know of people that have got upgraded to Centurion quicker but they have been chosen for undisclosed reasons). There are several criterion that AmEx utilise for Centurion membership and each case is reviewed individually, some people would not benefit from Centurion even though they spend more than the required level.

Thanks,
Richard
