Doesn't matter... What do you spend the $50k on? (i.e., travel, and related expenses?)
...they hold that the $150,000 a year spending is a strict qualifier.
This is a load of dirt... There are many, many threads on the subject.. But you need to spend a great deal of money on T & E expenses as this is whom the card is partnered with. Why would Amex offer you a card, such as Centurion, if you didn't use it for its intended purpose?
By this I mean that Amex has "agreements" with specific companies... Amex markets the Centurion card to those who will spend on items, and services from the companies which Amex is in "agreement" with...
So in other words Airlines, Hotels, Rental Car companies, resturants, these sort of things, TRAVEL...
Again, why would Amex offer you a Centurion Card if you do not fly anywhere, stay in hotels, rent cars, or eat in resturants?
This is its purpose... IMHO... I would like to hear from anyone who obtained a Centurion card who does not travel..
There are of course exceptions to the rule.. I am sure John Doe Cardmember since 1959 will be offered the Charter Member card...
Also, why would need the card if you do not have a use for the card?
Some people in the world would like to have it as a "status symbol"?
But these "status symbol" types (i.e., trust fund babies, people who have only had money in their families for one generation, people who have not worked for it) are obviously "new money" folds..
"Old money" folks do not, as a whole, possess these "status symbol" attitudes, as they do not care... Money has been in their families' lives for hundreds of years..
It is none of my business though...
You could easily justify the fee if you use some of the benefits at least once a year

This is why I am happy with my Platinum..
